Monday Blues: Back to School; Back to Work; Back to Reality

Well... it was a big day today. Ian left early this morning for his first day of work... and Ben had his first day of first grade.
First Day Craziness
I managed to get both kids fed, dressed, lunch made, and out the door and JUST BARELY in time for the first bell. PHEW. The parking situation was crazy and we managed to get insanely lucky. A lady was leaving JUST as we pulled up to the front of the school. Unfortunately I used up ALL of my luck for the day on parking...

Nikki and I went to the PTA meet and greet and then I decided to be SuperOrganizedMom. I was going to go to Dekalb Farmers Market just as it opened on my way home. I was going to pick out some great food and make a special dinner for everyone. I got a great parking spot, found a cart that didn't sqeak, walked into the empty store and got in line to get my check approved... that was when my luck ran out. The checkbook was not in my purse. No checkbook -- no shopping. (My ATM card is dead). Rummaging in the car produced $20. After buying dessert and flowers I was left with $11. What to do?! I had promised Ben and Nik fish for dinner... then I remembered the fish heads in the freezer and Voila! A loaf of french bread, fish chowdah and the problem was solved. Dinner, flowers, dessert and all for $18.

The Bus
I was a little worried that Ben would not be able to figure out where to get off of the bus; I needn't have been.
Everyone in the neighborhood waits at one bus stop (although, technically, there are 3 designated stops in the neighborhood). The first day turned into a party. One of the moms brought popsicles for everyone and her son sat next to Ben to show him where to get off...
It turns out the bus pretty much only serves our block. Only two kids were left on the bus after everyone got off... so here is a group shot!

I've been checking your blog on a regular basis. So glad that you added your blog about the first day. Wow, school starts early in Atlanta. Tami and the girls were in CO last week and had a very late arrival at Bradley last night (midnight) so they all are still sleeping (9:30). I'm off today to spend time with them and take the girls to the town pool and Tami can do errands. How was Ian's first day? How did Ben like his new school and first grade.
