Tube the hooch!

Yesterday we woke up early, packed up, and drove the 1.5 hours up to Helen, GA to tube the Chattahoochee river. I think half of Atlanta must have had the same idea because we barely found a parking spot and even when we got there the line at the outfitter was long. By the time we left, the line stretched down the block and the line of cars to get into town stretched all the way to the next town...

We paid, got on the bus, and drove up the river a bit. Then we piled into our tubes and joined the log jam of people on the river. It was so much fun. We went with 3 other families and the older boys floated off giggling and having fun. I think I only saw them all a handful of times the whole day. The river was a little low so there were many places where the tubes got stuck on rocks... it was only 4-6" deep in some areas but there were still a couple of fun little rapids. Mostly it was a long, slow, lazy river. Even in the morning it was packed with people in pink, green, and blue tubes. Nik and I strapped out tubes together, lay back, and looked up at the sky.

Half way down the river we stopped at a water slide park and all the boys went down the really tall water slide. It was probably 4 stories tall so I was surprised that even Nik went down. Once the boys were tired of the slide we continued tubing down the river.

It was mid-afternoon by the time we finally made landfall so everyone was starving. Like the good parents that we were, instead of serving the nutritious lunches we had packed we all retired to the Dairy Queen at the next town for ice cream shakes and sundaes.

What a fun time. I've thought of doing it with Tami and the girls here at our local river but there just never is enough time.

DQ sounds a lot better than healthy lunches/snacks.

The girls are going kayaking later this afternoon with friends.
