Where did the summer go?

This week I am feverishly packing, getting some web work done for our local homeschool group, and finishing up lesson planning for the fall. It all feels a little bittersweet because I can see and feel summer drawing to a close everywhere I look. Around here summer is almost over... public school starts back up in 1.5 weeks so the stores are focused on back-to-school sales and the parents that I know are counting down the days till their kids go back to school. For us summer is going to stretch out just a little longer -- we are leaving this weekend for a 2 week vacation in Connecticut.

While our vacation will stretch the summer, this is our last week under summer vacation rules... unlimited access to junk food and junk entertainment. Our supply of chips, cookies, sugar cereal, pop tarts, ice cream and ice pops is slowly dwindling. Long afternoons of watching Scooby Doo, Spongebob, the Jetsons, and the Flintstones or playing the Wii will soon come to an end.

Before we know it the pools will only be open on weekends. And the parks, museums, and libraries will be ours again during the day.

Sounds sad!
Our summer is just starting. This is the first week we have temperature coming close to 80 during the day and close to 70 (68 this morning) during the night. The temperature about 10F lower than it was last year.
