Beach pass-times: hunting and gathering

We spent most of the previous 2 weeks sitting on the beach on the Connecticut side of the Long Island Sound. On my side of the family we love the beach. Obsessively. We cannot get enough of it. We could live on the beach. We started planning our next beach getaway within days of starting this one.

The boys have inherited this beach mania along with one of it's stranger corollaries: in my family we revert to primal beings when we hit the beach - we become hunters and gatherers. We spend long hours combing up and down the beach. We don't just confine our acquisitions to seashells, no, we diversify.

We hunt for hermit crabs, starfish, and large crabs:

We hunt for treasure buried in the sand:

We even hunt for seaweed for the compost bin:

I did not realize that we are so industrious on the beach all the time.
We miss you! We washed all kids beach toys and we miss you!
