Cameras...

Our camera was due for a refresh at Christmas this year so we decided to get a new one before the trip. We got a Cannon Powershot SX200IS with 12x optical zoom but now I am rethinking my decision not to buy the Rebel SLR...

My new Cannon takes beautiful pictures of the kids. It does much better than the old Cannon in low light. And it takes pictures much faster than my older Cannon. Plus it has a fantastic Macro and Super-Macro feature.:

This next little plant was taken from about 1" away from the plant on Super-Macro. It is a sundew about the size of my thumbnail:

But I have found myself taking pictures of birds. A LOT of pictures of birds. Sometimes when I get home I find myself playing Australian Where's Waldo. For example... This is a picture of the Fantail I saw...

Can you find it? I'll even give you a hint... here is a closeup of it...

But then again I rarely have the patience to fiddle with the manual settings... so I am not sure that I could take full advantage of a Digital SLR... And I don't like having to carry something heavy around... And I certainly and not going to carry a tripod. Even at 12x optical zoom it is virtually impossible to get a non-blurry shot even with image stabilization. Plus I really, really hate carrying a heavy bag. I am constantly taking things out of my bag (like extra water and tissues) that I regret afterwards in an effort to economize on weight...

Those flowers are beautiful and so unique. It must be fun seeing all these tropical plants.

I finally found the bird on the large picture! It hides so well.
