Wilsons Promontory: Tidal River Beach

The Tidal River beach in Normal Bay was just over the dunes from our campsite...

The sand was white and fine and the ocean water clear and bracingly cold...

Large granite boulders lay strewn on the edge of the beach...

And long pieces of kelp washed up with the morning tide...

The tidal river itself was warmer than the ocean and the color of strong tea. It was mostly ankle deep but there were a couple of deeper pools that were good for swimming. Small fish swam up and down the river and occasionally there was even a big fish for the kids to chase...

Ben and I walked all the way up the Tidal river to the little bridge. The river is very different after the bridge - it is much deeper and runs through beautiful marches. The color is still of very strong tea. We saw some people on kayaks going down the river and Ben said that we should of brought our inflatable kayak. I was of the same opinion at that moment.
