Happy July 4th!

We had a perfect, all-American 4th of July yesterday.

We got up early and drove to Helen, GA to go tubing. We spent 2.5 hour floating, lazily, down the Chattahoochee River. At times the river barely moves and at times it tosses you over little rocky drops. Sometimes the water is so shallow that you have to squiggle the tube over rocks and other times the water is deep and still. It is one of my favorite Georgia summer activities -- the water is icy even on the hottest summer day and the scenery is pretty and relaxing. After tubing we always go to Dairy Queen and have ice cream for lunch. Very decadent.

When we got home we were exhausted. We all collapsed on various couches and vegged out in front of the TV. We finally managed to rally around 5:30 and head to Decatur for an evening of parades, big-band music, picnicing and fireworks.

I didn't bring a camera yesterday... but here is a picture of Ben from 2 years ago taken at the 4th festivities in Decatur:

Tubing on a river on the 4th in the heat - perfect. We spent it under the shade of the evergreens next to one of my perennial gardens. I claimed the rope hammock and Tami and Natalia were in the fort we made for Natalia on the soft, thick shredded wood bark. All of us enjoyed the quiet time reading after a shopping jaunt at Barnes & Noble.

It was HHH yesterday and worse today. It's suppose to be 100. Weather to stay inside in the A/C. Hope Katya isn't roasting at sleep away camp.
