Bar Harbor and Bar Island

Bar Harbor is a cute little town. Mostly touristy shops and restaurants with a few touristy galleries thrown in (watercolors of local scenery and boats, crafts made from sea glass, etc). We actually ended up spending a lot more time in town than we had thought. There seems to be a microclimate over Bar Harbor – the rest of the island would be freezing cold, foggy and drizzly and Bar Harbor would be partly-cloudy and warm.

At low tide you can walk from Bar Harbor to Bar Island. Once on the Island you can walk around the rocks at low tide or hike up to the summit. Despite very warm conditions in Bar Harbor the island was very chilly. Fog was settling in around the island and a fierce wind blew blew around the point. Ian and the boys decided to head inland and summit the peak while I decided to try the rocks. I found two absolutely perfect sea urchin shells with their needles still intact… unfortunately they stunk so horribly we had to throw them away a couple of days later…

You can’t go to Maine without eating fresh Lobster, so we did. Yum. And lobster rolls another day for lunch… Ben discovered a taste for lobster, expensive taste we are developing in this child!
