Flying Mountain

Flying mountain was probably my favorite quick hike.

The hike start by heading uphill immediately and steeply. The kids LOVE these rocky scrambles. They have so much fun climbing up the trail... the steeper, rockier, and more dangerous the trail the more fun they have and the less whining we hear.
They are both incredibly adept at finding their way up and down things at this point...
As you climb up you are very quickly rewarded with fantastic views of Sommes Sound (the only US fijord). The views continue on and off for most of the hike as you follow the cliffs. Blueberry bushes line the trail providing additional motivation. Unfortunately the berries were still mostly green. At the end of the hike you end up in a little cove. The water is calm and clear and warm(ish) so it is the perfect place for a swim.

If you hike back along the fire road, and look carefully, you can pick a ton of wild strawberries!! Big, ripe ones.
