Quilt U Class - Cutwork Square

Ok. I LOVE how this fish came out. I satin-stitched the fish outline (with 2 layers of Solvy underneath it) and then cut out the top, batting, and backing leaving only the Solvy. Then I stitched over the Solvy creating the inside 'lace' of the fish. This technique is similar to making free motion lace but it creates a really cool window in the quilt.
Once I was done I trimmed the Solvy, quilted the square, and washed away the solvy. This left the open lace. The square got significantly deformed so I had to make it wavy. :-) Next time I will make it larger and then cut to size.
