The weather here has been swinging wildly. It has been as warm as 72 during the day; last night it was 23. The wildlife doesn't know what to do. Over Christmas
(the last time we had crazy fluctuations) we adopted Noel -- a tiny, baby anole. He (or she) is living with us until the weather stabilizes. Last Tuesday a butterfly was sitting on the back door trying to open its wings. We brought it inside for the day, watched it stretch out its wings, let it sit on our hands, and then let it go once it could fly.
This morning I found a very sad sight -- the giant anole who lives on the back porch (he is almost 7" long!!) was lying, frozen, by the doormat. Well... I am going with the theory that he is not dead until he is warm and dead so I have put him in the cage with Noel.
If he wakes up we'll get a second cage and keep him, too, until the weather stabilizes. Poor guy. We have caught him once before and now I feel terrible that we didn't take him in then... Noel does not seem very happy about his roomate.
On a less depressing note I recently finished these two little dolls and sent them off...
