What I learned this week...

The last thing we do in school every day is that I have Ben dictate 2-3 of sentences and then illustrate the page. It gives him a chance to record the most interesting thing he learned and it gives me a chance to make sure he retains some of what he hears about. Here, in his own words, is what Ben learned this week:

3/17 Egyptians made paint out of minerals. They painted the brick walls of their houses. The bricks were made of mud. The houses had gardens with water and fruit trees.

3/18 The ankh means life. They used a bone to sew. They used 2 different kinds of writing.

3/19 They mostly did 2 kinds of jobs. One of them was they grew crops when the river wasn't flooded. When it was flooded they work building pyramids. I wanted to be a scribe. A scribe writes stuff. Ancient Egyptians used the Nile to go places. They got dogs from a different country.

3/20 If you were born as pharaoh you would be a pharaoh. Scribes don't pay taxes. Scribes could become mayors or officials.

3/21 One of the game that Ancient Egyptians played is Snakes and Lions. How you play Snake and Lions is you first go from the tail to the head and then you go back to the tail. When you get to the tail you turn into a lion. A lion can eat anything. You have to get to the snake's head to win the game.
