On Wednesdays we substitute a drawing exercise for handwriting. Today Ben wanted to draw an owl so I printed these instructions.
Here is Ben's owl (drawn with pencil, colored with Neocolor II watersoluble pastels):
I have been letting Ben use some of my real art supplies and he has been amazed by what a joy they are to work with. He is much more excited about drawing when he is allowed to use them. Next year we are going to use the Artistic Pursuits curriculum and I think we will buy the high quality art supplies they recommend.

me too...
Actually, one of you made something very similar but in ceramics. I am going to check the signature right now - have to eat my words- each one of you made one. I will take a pictures and send them to you.
Ben will be the judge.

As I remember it I made one in middle school in ceramics class. The head was removable so you could put in a votive candle and the eyes would glow. Leo made a ceramic one that sits on a square of wood in ?first grade?
i remember both. mine was the demented looking one. ben's looks a lot like katya's, now that i think about it
Leo
You both are correct:
- Katya's has a removable head and, judging by the black coating on inside of it, Katya put a votive candle in it at some point. It has the same large oval eyes as Ben's.
- Lev, yours is very sad and tired and defiant, it must be from the same period as your flowers that Borya still has in his apartment in Paris. It has large round eyes.
