A new piano!! (digital, that is...)

Ben has been learning to play on my 25 year old Casio keyboard. He has quickly run into its limitations -- when he needs to play fortissimo he turns up the volume... and then turns it down for pianissimo. A real piano is out of the question (we move WAY too much) but the new digital pianos have weighted keys and a full set of pedals... so off we went researching and shopping. After 2 weeks of research and several trips to various stores we bought a new digital piano!
We bought a Korg C-320. We debated between it and a Yamaha YDP-160... finally Ben and I played them both back-to-back this morning. We both liked the softer touch and mellower sound of the Korg better... so Ben got to put the Sold sign up...

They had a Steinway Grand in the clearance area... boy... that piano sounds SO beautiful... even when I play it.

You didn't opt for the Steinway (just kidding).

OH!!!!! Sooooo jealous! We're still trying to snag a cheap and somewhat quality piano.. we had planned to get a digital Yamaha, basically the model you mentioned, but we just can't afford it now that our insurance doesn't cover the girls counseling... ($2,800 per month!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Our new nanny/housekeeper (a small bit of both) is using her Russian skills to try to find us one through the used ads in various classifieds... I hope we get one soon!

Can't wait to hear a clip of Ben playing :-)

I bet our kids would be really good friends if we lived nearby... Sniff.

Tempting as a piano (that cost more on clearance than either of our cars) was... we went for the digital.

I really wish you lived nearby... or at least someplace I could visit reasonably affordably.. :-(

Right now, in the US, it is a GREAT time to buy a grand piano. Almost every grand piano we saw was marked down by 30-70%! The Steinway was marked down from 70 grand to 22. The cheapest grands were under 10k.
Of course... then you need the room for a grand, regular tuning, and to move the beast... We were joking that if we took ever piece of furniture out of our living room you JUST might be able to squeeze past the grand as you went by...

What? You don't have a large music room in your dwelling?

I do... but the servants are always using it as a laundry station -- they claim they need a large space when the press my sheets. Daily.

Congratulations!
Did you find the place for it?
Ben told me today that the piano goes into his room!

Yes... it is going in the library/classroom/office room. In the place where the puzzle/telephone table currently stands.
