Pinewood Derby

This week was also the Pinewood Derby. Ben has been working hard on his car for a couple of weeks. Some parents are really involved in the car making process -- I let Ben be in charge of the whole thing. He designs the car, sands it, primes it, and paints all of the coats himself. I only cut the basic shape on the bandsaw and Ian helps with attaching the wheels.
Here he is drying the first coat of paint...

He got to be the announcer for a little while at the race...

Here is his car going down the track... [it is the blue one]

This year we didn't take the time to sand the wheels and axle and it made a big difference. Last year's car was much faster than this year's... next year we will take the time to sand the wheels and true the axle again.

Isn't that how it's suppose to be? The boys making their own cars for the derby? Hope Ben enjoyed all of it.

Great looking car! Congratulations to Ben!
What is that you did not do to the axle?
