Sometimes it pays to be a packrat...

... and an organized packrat, no less.

So, last night, Ian says to me, "Why does the floor by the sink feel damp?"
I said, "Maybe one of the kids spilled something..."

A little bit later I went down into the basement to wash a shoe that had doggy doo on it. I looked at the floor. There was a puddle. I looked up. The floor boards and support beams were wet. Soaking wet...

AAAAARGH!

Apparently the dishwasher leaked, soaked UNDER the kitchen tiles, and soaked through the floor boards.

What a MESS!

What does this all have to do with being a packrat? Well... this morning I had a non-functional dishwasher full of dishes. So I brought out the really fancy Williams-Sonoma drying rack from our apartment days (10+ years ago) and washed the dishes by hand.

See... I KNEW it would come in handy some day.

Who knew doing dishes by hand could be so much fun?? When Ben saw me washing dishes in a bucket of soapy water he immediately volunteered to take over dish duty for the week. He did all the dinner dishes himself.

That is funny, good thing you did not have time to tell him that it will be everyone's chore for a while.
