DragonCon

Once again another Dragon*Con has come and gone... and once again I did not get my act together to go in costume. This year I actually had most of the supplies to make a Sakura costume, so maybe if I start now I will be done by next Dragon*Con. Anyway...

We always try to get to the parade gathering area early so we can walk around, watch the characters milling, and get pictures taken with some of our heros. This year Nikki decided to go in full Darth Vader getup so for every character that we wanted a picture taken with there was someone who asked if they could take a picture of Nik. It was fun to see people in full Star Wars getup stopping to snap pictures of little Nik who did his best threatening Vader impression.

We got pictures taken with Snufkin and Moomintroll...

Batman...

And Chewbacca... (by the way... doesn't the guy sitting behind him look suspiciously like George Lucas?!)

Then we sat down to watch the parade. We convinced Ben's friend Adam and Adam's mom Amy to join us. I think she was amused in equal parts by the parade and my enthusiasm for and knowledge of the various characters.

The parade is an incredible mix of characters from cartoons, science fiction movies and books, fantasy movies and books, comic books, and video games. So there are threatening monsters...

Super Mario Brothers...

Klingons on motercycles...

And Storm troopers who stop to acknowledge their leader.

I tell you to - it is Lucas! I know for sure, Lucas always looks like a hedgehog - and there is no way to fake it. He is Lucas!
We need to plan our trips to Atlanta based on 2 events - Renaissance Fair and this parade.Looks like a great fun.
The costumes are wonderful, and Nic looks fitting right in.
I think it is mostly his dramatic skills that gets the attention to him and his costume. At the Renaissance Fair people keep asking where did he got his costume. And it was just store bought costume.

that george lucas pic is creepy... i showed it around the office and everyone was amazed...

i love the idea of him ghosting conventions where people are all dressed up as his characters, and he adopts the rather anonymous pilot... nice.
