Picnics, playtime, and getting ready for the week

Back to School Picnic
We have had 3 weeks of unrelenting heat and no rain. On Friday Ben's school had a back to school picnic on the school playground. Guess what -- IT RAINED!! Sheesh. Instead of spreading blankets out on the field to eat we all crowded into the cafeteria. Luckily the rain passed quickly and after dinner we all headed outside to enjoy the playground.
Three cheers for J* and all those who organized this event! What a fantastic way to start the school year!
Date Night - Thai Me Up
Ian and I got our date night! We went to Thai Me Up -- a little thai restaurant in Decatur. I'll give it a B. The food was tasy but not exceptional - good thai but not great or inspired thai. The drink was AWFUL. I had a watermelon saketini. It tasted like a watermelon jolly rancher melted in cough syrup. Yuck. If you are going to charge $7 for a cocktail it had better taste good; make a drink that complements sake instead of fighting it.
Normally the menu is overpriced for what it is ($15+ for an entree), but they have a nice prix fixe menu where you get an appetizer, entree, and a shot of ice cream for $10 if you eat between 5 and 7.
The kids went to Parents Night Out and LOVED it. Friends, toys, crafts, pizza and movies.

Getting Ready
The rest of the weekend was dedicated to getting ready - Ikea, laundry, shopping, cleaning, etc. One of Ian's coworks, his wife, and their little baby came over for brunch... April, thanks for the stacking cups game. It kept my tired and cranky kids entertained while the grownups enjoyed a lovely brunch.
