Quickly rising to a position of leadership in a male-dominated organization
That was what Ian said I should put on my resume when I told him I was asked to be a tiger cub scout den leader.
I'm actually excited about this. There are some great trips planned for the boys - 2 camping trips and a long weekend in Chattanooga. I have to go buy a uniform for Ben and for me! Tee hee... when I was in high school I was always jealous because it seemed like boyscouts got to do fun things... and now I get to be a boyscout.
A delicate balance
There is a delicate balance to play in managing our lives during the week. For example, I needed to hire a sitter for the Boy Scout meeting on Tuesday night. I left the house at 6:45 and was home at 8:10. This morning Nikki was crying when I dropped him off at Ms. Alyssa's. She asked him why - he said it was because he missed his mommy. I noticed that the other week when I had a sitter in the evening it left Nikki very cranky as well... so maybe I need to be sure he is home with me the day after I have to have an evening sitter. Luckily there are really only two weeknights I need sitters - leadership meetings and pack meetings.
Getting in trouble
Maybe I should have found a different dojo. Nik and I are already in trouble. Nikki was tired and fussing about which marker to write with when the teacher stopped class, walked over to me, and handed me a note. Apparently he keeps stock notes that he hands out when younger siblings get rowdy reminding parents that they need to keep their kids under control or leave the building. The thing that pissed me off was that he has SEEN me take Nik out several times when he got too loud and I was in the process of warning him that if he didn't behave we would have to leave!!
On the plus side Ben is having a great time. At the end of class they had a wrestling tournament. Ben was amazing. He actually came in second place! His teacher came up to me afterwards and said what really impressed him was that Ben noticed that a boy had caught his leg at an awkward angle, stopped and moved the boys leg, and THEN proceeded to push him off the mat. :-) My little, fierce gentleman.
