Who thought that a porous surface is a good idea for a kitchen counter?!?! Last night I opened a package of smoked salmon. Unbeknownst to me the package leaked some salmon oil under my cutting board. This morning I discovered the spill. After 20 minutes of cleaning my counter still smells like salmon! The oil has absorbed into my granite counter.
I am thinking of replacing my granite counter top with something man-made when I red0 the kitchen floor (which also has a salmon oil stain in the unsealed grout). Or maybe I should just stop eating salmon. Or at least stop dropping it.

Go with a solid surface countertop!!! Doesn't need to be sealed every six months and won't absorb oils or smells.
