The project this month was cement stepping stones. While the cubmaster got the cement started, I talked to the boys about fossils. Then we sent them out on a scavenger hunt to find things with which to make fossils in their stepping stones. The scout hut is behind the church and there is a little patch of ivy covered ground with some tall pine trees in which the boys could hunt. Among some of the more interesting things to be fossilized were a pen cap and the plastic ring from the top of a juice bottle.
Once the cement was mixed it was doled out into pie tins and the boys got to add in their finds plus some sea shells one of the parents brought. Somehow all of this was achieved without any cement getting on the carpeted floor, kids hair, or the parent's nice work clothes. I attribute this to divine intervention as I can only explain this miricle by the close proximity of the church. Ben made 2, Nikki made 1. Now I have three... What am I supposed to do with these things?!

Quite interesting looking - especially the one in the middle with the pine needles. My suggestion is to put them outside in a special place in your yard. It must be quite chaotic with more than one troop at the meeting.
Yes. Very chaotic. The kids really enjoy it, though. I can't even imagine what the upcoming camping trip will be like... the whole pack is going together!
